Welcome to the Oregon Dental Conference

In US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s book “Together,” he writes “While loneliness engenders despair and ever more isolation, togetherness raises optimism and creativity. When people feel they belong to one another, their lives are stronger, richer, and more joyful.”
I think that organized dentistry is one example of togetherness and all the benefits it brings to our lives. Being a part of something bigger than myself, surrounded by supportive colleagues, makes me feel recharged. I’m looking forward to sharing ideas, thinking about the future, and being with you all at the Oregon Dental Conference this year. I know that my life, and our profession, is more joyful because of you.

ODC New Dentist Course
Tackling the Biggest Pitfalls in the Dentist-Assistant Relationship
Kevin Henry, MA
Thursday, April 13, 8:00 am - 11:00 am
In his 20+ years of working with dental practices across the United States, Mr. Henry has seen some of the most glaring issues in a practice come from the interpersonal
relationships that exist in that practice. If the dentist and assistant aren’t on the same
page, it’s hard for the rest of the practice to be, so let’s start there and build a model of
communication and understanding that can turn dysfunction into harmony. In this fastpaced,
interactive lecture, we will look at common issues from both the assistant and
dentist side, shining a light on some common myths that need to be busted.
At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:
Recognize the biggest areas of concerns for dentists with their assistants
Understand why assistants want to be considered “team” rather than “staff”
Avoid problems before they begin and minimize those that exist
List common issues from both the dentist and assistant side of the equation
Comprehend what can be done to minimize problems
See things from “the other side” when it comes to the dentist-assistant relationship
