At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss the diagnosis, pathophysiology, and evaluation of sleep disordered breathing.  They will learn about the efficacies of different interventions including medical, oral appliances, and different surgical options.  They will also be able to discuss who may benefit from MaxilloMandibular Advancement (MMA), the steps in MMA surgery, its risks, and its known outcomes. 

 

Dr. Engelstad received a DDS from the University of Minnesota in 1994, a MD from the University of Louisville in 1997 and a MHI from the University of Minnesota in 2010.  He is a full-time OHSU School of Dentistry Faculty member as of 2011.  Dr. Engelstad maintains an active clinical practice within OHSU’s Hatfield Building.  His main clinical interests are basic dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma and reconstruction, cleft deformity repair, implants, and the surgical correction of sleep apnea.
