Ethics in the Business of Dentistry (presented with Phyllis L. Beemsterboer MS, EdD, FACD)
TThis course will provide an interactive lecture and discussion on the business and ethical interface of dental practice. The material will explore ethical business issues that are addressed in the ADA Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct and discuss ethical dilemmas that may arise from this interface. The facilitators will present cases to explore the many challenges facing the dental practice environment.
At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:
Describe the types of contractual obligations that challenge the ethical obligations of the dentist as health care provider.
Compare and contrast ethical principles as they are reflected in ethical dilemmas and in the provision of standard of care.
Identify the business ethics concerns that are discussed in the ADA Code and understand how to apply a model of ethical decision-making related to these issues
Dr. Chiodo is the Oregon Health & Science University Chief Integrity Officer. As such, he carries responsibility for all Integrity Programs at the University including health care compliance, human and animal subject research, environmental health and radiation safety, institutional bio-safety, conflict of interest, audit and advisory services, information privacy and security, and compliance education. Dr. Chiodo is also a professor of Community Dentistry, and Associate Director of the Center for Ethics in Health Care. Dr. Chiodo received his Certificate in Health Care Ethics from the University of Washington, School of Medicine in 1992.
