Endodontic Treatment in a Comprehensive Dental Treatment Plan: Assessment and Execution

The advent of implant treatment planning along with more sophisticated patient expectations has changed the entire landscape and future of dentistry. No longer can an individual practitioner remain isolated from his environment, ignore current trends, and expect to provide patients with the modern standard of care. Dr. Pannkuk’s presentation will focus primarily on the role of modern endodontics, efficient digital communication, and essential technological tools. He will discuss endodontic treatment options highlighting important principles of comprehensive assessment. Myths and realities related to endodontic and implant treatment outcome will be outlined. In addition, he will describe detailed endodontic retreatment methods and their current relevance to competing implant options. Postendodontic restoration choice and technique will be presented as important contributors to treatment success. Finally, strategies for recall assessment utilizing cone beam technology will be shown. Throughout the presentation Dr. Pannkuk will highlight actual puzzling cases presented as interactive thought-provoking dilemmas.

At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify the best treatment options for a variety of complex patient presentations involving teeth having damaged pulps.
  • Understand the principles and rationale of treating endodontic disease.
  • Develop a complex decision-tree that weighs risk-benefit of endodontically treating a tooth for a patient throughout the entire dental rehabilitative process.
  • Choose the most suitable build-up and restoration after endodontic treatment.
  • Define their own realistic chances of endodontic treatment success through systematic recall and utilization of new tools like cone beam computed tomography.
  • Manage complex compromised cases by understanding what constitutes success and determines outcome.
