Go Green! Minimally Invasive Dentistry From Sealants to Onlays!

Today’s dentistry is driven by the ever increasing exactness in our understanding of the very nature of dental decay. Would you like to impart to your patients a 90% chance of NEVER having a cavity? Would your patients appreciate and value experiencing dentistry that does not require a drill or anesthetic? This course will teach the student exactly how to satisfy both questions.

This course explores the microbial biofilm phenomenon associated with dental decay. We will see dentistry through a dental microscope. We will see the advantages of air abrasion, lasers, sealants that last, inlays, and onlays (rather than full coverage crowns), etching, bonding resin cements, and much more.

The focus of this course is to teach a methodology of examining the patient, assessing risk then using the appropriate ultra conservative restorative technique to maximize the longevity and success of the restoration.

At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the advantages to the patient of magnification in dentistry
  • Know the appropriate magnification for dental procedures
  • Describe the CAMBRA and ICDOS systems of risk assessment
  • Apply Risk categories to their patients
  • Incorporate air abrasion into patient treatment protocols
  • Modify treatment systems based on the nature of microbial biofilms
  • Recommend treatment appropriate to the risk categories of the patient
  • Select between composite, glass ionomer, and RRGI cements
  • Design conservative Inlay and Onlay restorations
  • Create treatment protocols based on evidence based information
Randolph Shoup, DDS graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1981. He served in the U.S. Public Health Service from 1981 to 1984. In 1984 he established a private practice in Indianapolis focusing on high tech equipment and esthetic dentistry. Dr. Shoup had the very first intra oral camera where he could show patients actual live pictures of their teeth. Dr. Shoup has also pioneered numerous techniques to treat teeth with no shots and no drill. Dr. Shoup is a pioneer as well in microscope dentistry where the dental treatment is completed using a high power surgical microscope. Dr. Shoup is the only dentist in Indiana to use this technology for restorative dentistry. Dr. Shoup lectures for the American Dental Association on microscope based restorative techniques and minimally invasive dental procedures. Dr. Shoup lectures across the U.S. to other dentists, study clubs and dental schools. Dr. Shoup also holds a patent on a revolutionary dental device to help the dentist and the lab create ideal porcelain veneers and crowns.
