1. The Role of the Dentist, Hygienist, and Auxiliary in Multiple Fatality Incidents

In any Multiple Fatality Incident or mass disaster where there is extensive injury and/or loss of life, those attending to the response must eventually deal with the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) process. Three main methods for human identification exist: Fingerprints, DNA, and Dental. This lecture will be an in-depth look at what goes on behind the scenes during the DVI effort, including the dental identification process and the role of the dental auxiliary. Powerpoint lecture will include information about National dental database programs that are available to law enforcement and the general public, dealing with missing and unidentified persons, Disaster Mortuary Response Team efforts, and actual images taken from the World Trade Centers, Hurricane Katrina, and other recent MFI’s.

2. Forensics and Hollyweird: Busting the CSI Myths

This course will be an illuminating trip through the fundamentals of forensic investigation with an emphasis on forensic odontology, and using actual case presentations, a debunking of the common CSI effect that pervades the television industry ultimately effecting juries and their decisions throughout the country.
