1. Caries Management by Risk Assessment for the Dental Team Workshop
 
This workshop course is designed to impact the methodologies of a dental team in relation to caries risk assessment, preventive therapy, and management of the disease. The importance of evidence-based preventive therapy and treatment options related to the caries balance model to combat the caries infection will be reviewed. Through an interactive lecture and workshop format, the audience members will be able to immediately incorporate the information into practice. 
 
At the conclusion of this workshop course, the participant should be able to:
  • Decide which caries risk assessment form is best for his/her practice.
  • Exhibit effective CAMBRA patient communication using Brief Motivational Interviewing (BMI).
  • Integrate consistent caries risk assessment and caries management protocols with all dental patients. 
 
2. Oral Pathology Review for Dental Professionals

This course is designed to increase the dental professional’s awareness of oral lesions seen most commonly in daily practice. Pathologic conditions that directly or indirectly affect the oral cavity and adjacent structures will be discussed. This presentation will provide a spectrum of signs and symptoms accompanied by clinical slides to determine a diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and indications for a biopsy.

At the conclusion of this workshop course, the participant should be able to:
  • Evaluate normal and abnormal hard and soft tissues to determine a diagnosis or differential diagnosis.
  • Create an oral pathology risk assessment protocol best for his/her practice.
  • Integrate consistent oral pathology evaluation procedures with all dental patients

Ms. Debi Gerger has a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene and Master of Public Health degree in Health Promotion and Education from Loma Linda University and is currently working on her dissertation for a Doctoral of Management degree in Organizational Leadership. Her professional experience includes clinician, educator, facilitator, author, corporate consultant, business owner, associate editor of the California Dental Hygienists’ Association Journal, and is the Department Chair of Dental Hygiene at West Coast University.
