Philomath Citizens Vote to Resume Public Water Fluoridation

(Wilsonville, OR) March 13th 2012: The residents of Philomath voted in favor of water fluoridation this week, reversing a prior decision made last May from their city council to end fluoridation after over 30 years. Their vote ensures that their community will once again have all the health benefits of fluoridated water. Dismissing un-scientific arguments against fluoride, this election recognizes over 60 years of research that supports the safety and effectiveness of fluoridation as the best public health solution for protecting every citizen’s dental health.

Out of State Volunteer Dentists Now able to Practice Pro-Bono in Oregon with New Temporary License B

(Wilsonville, OR) March 5th, 2012— The Oregon Dental Association (ODA) celebrates the passage of SB 1509, which authorizes dental professionals who are licensed in other states and in good standing to practice dentistry without compensation in Oregon. This temporary license is good for up to 5 consecutive days in any 12 month period, after the application is approved by the Oregon Board of Dentistry.

ODA Celebrates the Passage of HB 4128 and the Expansion of Children’s Dental Health Coverage

In Oregon, 68 cases of cleft lip/palate amongst newborns were reported in 2007. These children are faced with real and potentially lasting challenges associated with oral clefts such as breathing, social integration, hearing, speech and language abilities.

Free 2-day Dental Clinic Oregon Mission of Mercy

(Wilsonville, OR) Nov. 21st — The Oregon Dental Association (ODA) is hosting its second Oregon Mission of Mercy (OrMOM) free dental clinic November 21st & 22nd at the Oregon Convention Center. Just like last year, dental screenings and services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, at no charge to those who attend.

“Race the Reaper”5.6-Mile Obstacle Course Race to Benefit Oregon Mission of Mercy

(Wilsonville, OR) August 31, 2011—Race the Reaper, a 5.6-mile obstacle race taking place October 1st and 2nd at Flying-M-Ranch in Yamhill, Oregon and a percentage of the proceeds will go to Oregon Mission of Mercy (OrMOM). OrMOM, an annual two-day free dental clinic put together by the Oregon Dental Association, serves the needs of the uninsured, the under-insured and those with difficulty getting to a dentist, through portable dental clinics.

Retired Dentist Rides for Life-Transforming Dental Care

August 16, 2011 Portland, Oregon - Dr. Tom Osterlind, a long-time member of the Oregon dental community and Oregon Dental Association, is using his participation in the Cycle Oregon ride this September 10-17 to support dental care for people in need. While the retired dentist has participated in the annual Cycle Oregon ride several times, this year carries special meaning as he continues to battle stage IV metastatic stomach cancer. In an effort to mark his significant personal victory, Dr. Osterlind will complete the week-long, 400-plus mile cycling journey as a fundraiser for Oregon Donated Dental Services (DDS).

Donated Dental Services of Oregon Hits Six Million Dollar Mark

July 27th, 2011 Portland, OR – Donated Dental Services of Oregon celebrates providing $6,002,575 of treatment in donated dental care since the inception of the program in Oregon to 1,520 needy individuals. DDS, and the 343 active dentists and 134 dental labs across the state, work together to make the program a success. In 2011 alone, 183 patients have been seen, providing $619,303 so far and they aren’t done yet.
